ABC FY2010 Grant Recipients
“Mariachi Music for Families”
The organization will hire a Mariachi band to perform at an event designed for low-income families with children. The general public will be invited.
AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY / THE GOLDSMITH PRESS
“25 Years of Zone 3: A Celebration”
This will be a collaborative cultural project between the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the surrounding community, culminating in a free event at the public library featuring literary presentations and an art exhibition.
CLARKSVILLE AREA YMCA
“Operation Excel Creative Arts Program”
Operation Excel, a partnership of Abundant Life Outreach Center and the Clarksville Area YMCA, provides a free afterschool program to high-risk students. This project will provide them with music and art instruction, culminating in a public exhibition.
CLARKSVILLE-MONTGOMERY COUNTY MUSEUM
“Harvest Contra Dance”
The museum will bring in a contra band and caller from Nashville, who will give dance lessons to the public before an evening of dancing in the museum.
COMMUNITY ARTS DEVELOPMENT OF DICKSON COUNTY
“ZAPP Jury for Firefly Fine Arts Festival”
Requested funds will cover expenses of the ZAPP jury for the 2nd Annual Firefly Fine Arts Festival, using zapplication.org which allows artists all over the country to submit all-digital applications to be judged by a panel of experts at the festival.
DICKSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
“Contemporary Jazz with the Laszlo Gardony Trio”
To increase knowledge of and appreciation for contemporary jazz in Dickson, the Laszlo Gardony Trio will perform two clinic/concerts at Dickson Middle School and an evening concert for the community at The Renaissance Center Performance Hall.
H.O.P.E. (HISPANIC ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS AND EDUCATION)
“Create, Paint and Express Yourself”
This is a bilingual art program which will educate Hispanics and other children to express themselves and build up self-confidence through drawing and painting. Brushes, canvas, acrylic paint and a t-shirt will be provided.
HOUSTON COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL
Through the creation of promotional video for air on local television stations, radio spots, print campaigns and web-based advertising, this project will generate interest and excitement for the arts in Houston County and the surrounding area.
HUMPHREYS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
“Library and the Arts: World Folktales Alive!”
The Wood & Strings Theatre will present two of their mainstage puppetry shows in the community and offer stories from around the world. Services include an in-service for teachers, hands-on workshops for students and a public performance at the library.
THE JACKSON FOUNDATION
“Young Entertainers on Stage (YES)”
Through Young Entertainers on Stage, an afterschool program dedicated to students in grades K-12, students get the opportunity to perform in a professional produced musical, as well as mentor with professional technical personnel offstage.
MT. OLIVE CEMETERY HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY
“Youth Recording and Celebrating Their Heritage”
This project will help minority youth to record their cultural heritage by photographing old, existing farmstead buildings and homes in the area and creating postcards from those images, with the project culminating in a public reception.
PROMISE LAND COMMUNITY CLUB
“Promise Land: A Legacy of Love and Music”
A combined choir made up of rising 4th and 8th grade Dickson County students will participate in a rehearsal workshop led by a celebrity director. At the 10th Annual Promise Land Community Festival the following day, they will be the featured performers.
RIVERS AND SPIRES FESTIVAL, INC.
“Art Expressed in Word and Movement”
As part of the Rivers and Spires Festival in Clarksville, “living statue” performers playing instruments will be positioned on street corners, while poets and songwriters will offer their insight about how to express oneself through word and song.
ROXY PRODUCTIONS, INC.
“Hansel and Gretel”
To support the Roxy Regional Theatre’s production of HANSEL AND GRETEL. The cast, a combination of professional actors and actresses from throughout the country and local children, will perform for general as well as school audiences.
